Writing Heart Filled Moments

A Mother’s Day Remembrance

bloggerspiritsidebar

When Oldest was in kindergarten, the students made a Mother’s Day present that included their handprints and part of a little one’s poem. I still have those handprints framed and hanging on the wall that leads up to our bedroom. It was a special reminder today of pudgy loving hands, warm hugs, and bedtime stories that never seemed to end. Cuddling up with my memories.

My little hands
reach up to you
for hugs before
I sleep …
And fold together
when I pray
The Lord my soul
to keep.
My little hands
are tiny now
But yours will
serve to guide
me …
And when I’m grown I’ll still
reach out
And know you’re
right beside me.

Happy Mother’s Day to You

“He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children.” Psalm 113:9 NIV

My dearest friend has two handprint poems just like this one with her boys love engraved on them. We’ve been friends since Oldest and her son were in kindergarten. Happy Mother’s day to you, Julie. Remembering those childhood days with fondness and love.

From My Heart to Yours,

  5. Janis, what a lovely tribute! I collect sayings and writings about hands to share with people in the memoir classes I teach, and you can be sure I’ll share this with them (providing a link to your blog, of course).

One day I got out some old family photos, scanned them, and cropped out everything but the hands. It’s amazing how we recognize people by their hands, even without any other part of the picture. A lot of stories can come to mind from just looking at a loved one’s hands. Some day I’m going to write about my mother’s hands. Thank you for your inspiration, and Happy

    Mother’s Day!
